This page will explain what curtailment travel insurance is, what you can claim for and how to begin the claims process in a simple and easy to understand manner.
What is curtailment travel insurance?
Curtailment travel insurance will cover you in the event that you have to cut your holiday or trip short and return home earlier than planned. This may be due to sustaining a serious illness or injury, or a close relative is taken ill or has died whilst you were away.
What elements of my trip can I make a claim for?
In most cases, the assistance team will have been involved in your case and taken care of any incurred medical expenses; however, other things that you may need to claim for include:
- Unused pre-paid elements of your holiday or trip which have not been refunded to you by your tour operator or other supplier; such as accommodation.
Any payment made under this section is based upon a pro-rata basis from the date of your enforced return home.
Am I eligible to make a curtailment travel insurance claim?
You may be eligible to claim if you have had to cut short your trip and return home early because either:
- You;
- The person you are travelling with;
- A close relative or business associate in your home country;
Unexpectedly suffer injury, illness or death.
You will not be covered if:
- You have actually returned home earlier than originally booked;
- Your claim is due to a pre-existing medical condition unless this has been declared, accepted in writing and any additional premium has been paid;
- You have not contacted the assistance team;
- You are claiming due to an existing condition of a non-travelling close relative or business associate.
